Back to School Countdown

My little guy, David, is so excited about starting Kindergarten next week. He’s been toting around his new backpack & lunchbox everywhere (Hello, it has sharks! Who wouldn’t?!) The school supplies have been purchased & his new school clothes arrived in the mail yesterday. I LOVE online shopping!! I took advantage of coupons & a sale at Osh Kosh & Carters & picked out the few items he needed. David approved the new clothes online before I checked out. It was way better than dragging my kids to the store – which would have been an all-day event leaving everyone tired & stressed. I’m going to be sad when my kids grow out of Carters clothes … they are so cute & so soft! Not to mention the beating they take from my messy kids. I usually purchase kids clothes on clearance or second hand. About once a year, I hit a major sale & get a few items as well. I can always count on finding some quality secondhand Carters outfits that still look new. I’m not in any way affiliated with Carters, nor are they paying me to say anything. It’s my honest Mom opinion & I just love their stuff! Ok, enough about school clothes!

My little guy is ready for Kindergarten & keeps asking me, “Is tomorrow the day I start school?” With a week left to go, I decided to make a countdown banner to help him to keep track of the days. Kids LOVE countdowns! And this one is super cute!
I used my new Silhouette Cameo (one of the most wonderful inventions ever!!) to make this simple little banner. It came together so quickly & all the supplies came from my stash. First, I found a free image file of a bus & cut one layer from yellow & the back layer from grey.  Black circles made perfect wheels.  Once the layers were glued together, I punched holes in the corners & strung them on a small silver cord with blue circles in between for space.  It really was super quick to put together & my kids had fun coloring while I worked on it.  To mark off each day, I’ll have David cover the number with an apple cutout.

Our countdown banner is displayed on a shelf above my couch. There are so many awesome printables I’ve discovered on Pinterest that I rotate them through this frame monthly. I like that it keeps my décor fresh. 🙂  Here is where you can find the printable I used for my shelf.

  1. Stopping by from the CSI challenge. The bunting is really cute and what a great way to count down to the big day. Hope your little guy has a fantastic school year! P.S. My little guy has a backpack with sharks/fish too!
