Sustainable fabrics have a lower impact on the the environment due to the methods of production that reduce waste and chemical use. It can also be used to refer to products from manufactures that practice strict fare trade methods for farmers and garment workers. Organic fabrics are produced from a controlled environment free of pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals regardless if the fiber is plant or animal derived. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) Certified fabrics must adhere to a strict guideline for production starting at soil level through to final transportation. Often the as a fabric is more ‘environmentally friendly’ it also is more expensive to produce and thus is sold at a higher consumer cost.
